Shortly after the birth, Walakifina\u2019s mum realised that her baby was blind. But she couldn\u2019t even afford the bus fare to the optician. Fortunately, Walakifina was given a free lift to the eye clinic in Moshi, Tanzania. She had the operation there free of charge.<\/p>\n

Focus on blind women and children<\/h3>\n

We are particularly keen to help blind women and children with cataracts in both eyes. Women are often excluded from medical care.<\/strong> The likelihood of them ever visiting an ophthalmologist themselves is much lower than for men. In children<\/strong> with cataracts, early treatment is of vital importance<\/strong>. If they remain blind for too long, they will never see properly again, even after an operation. The sooner they have an operation, the greater the chance that they will regain good vision. That is why we act quickly when it comes to children. Because every day counts.<\/p>\n
